The most romantic setting in LA! Tucked away on Stone Canyon with a brook running through it, flowers in abundance, even a pond with swans in the luscious gardens.

Perfect for dinners, weekends or honeymoons. Food is wonderfully prepared and beautifully served, with a rich wine list. In winter there is a wonderful fire roaring in the elegant, spacious dining room. Never noisy.

Beverly Hills Hotel: Price: to

9641 Sunset Blvd., Beverly Hills, 310-276-2251
The Polo Lounge and Outdoor Patio: The famous movie star vintage place has been remodeled but hasn't lost it's special ambiance. Intimate, lively, good food and wine, great drinks and salads. We love the Patio, especially for a summer night.

Beverly Wilshire Hotel: Price:

The Palm Room with piano music luxurious, relaxed setting, plenty of room, leisurely dining, not noisy. The Prix fixe dinner including the delicious dessert buffet. Never too noisy.

Buffalo Club: Price: to .

1520 Olympic Boulevard, Santa Monica, 310-450-8600
Deep, dark and romantic. Definitely an "out of the way" place that only insiders know. The food is very good and often unusual. Good wine list.

Chez Mimi: Price:

246, on 26th Street, Santa Monica, 310-393-0558
A series of romantic rooms around intimate patios. Like dining in a private house. Very well prepared food with a strong French theme. We especially love the real French bouillabaisse. Service can be spotty, especially on busy nights.

Crustacean: Price:

9646 Little Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, 310-205-8990
The setting is remarkable, you walk over koi streams which run through the restaurant. The setting as well as the delicately prepared Vietnamese seafood is truly special. We love the steamed crab.

Four Oaks: Price:

2181 N. Beverly Glen Blvd., West Los Angeles, 310-470-2265
This rustic hideaway midway up Beverly Canyon has a wonderful indoor-outdoor feeling.

Several woodsy rooms make for an easy atmosphere spruced up by elegant French food prepared by a "trophy chef," spic-and-span white tablecloths, and professional service. The wood burning fires in winter make it an all year intimate attraction.

Il Cielo: Price:

9018 Burton Way, Beverly Hills, 310-276-9990
In the midst of Beverly Hills this intimate and charming restaurant has a pretty patio where dining under the stars is a lovely experience. We like it best in summer for that reason.
The food has a Northern Italian bent and is OK, by no means the major attraction. The charming setting is wonderful.

Indochine: Price:

8225 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, 323-655-4777
This is one of the "happening" places in town. A beautiful exotic setting where the "in-set" hangs out.

If you want to be undisturbed and concentrate on your love partner, this is not the place to go. Too much action, people parading, and exciting food Asia meets California in their kitchen and the dishes are truly creative.

Les Deux Café:
Price:

1638 N. Las Palmas Ave., Hollywood, 323-465-0509
For pure romantic ambiance, one of our favorites. This very French Hollywood place has a charming garden and an intimate patio for summer dining. In winter the comfortable, woodsy dining room with big fireplace makes you feel comfortable and cozy.

There's also a bar and a backroom which often features a small band and/or a French torch singer. The food is French bistro style, good, not great. But the experience is special.

Little Door: Price:

8164 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, 323-951-1210
Another winner. You enter through "a little door" into an intimate patio leading to a patio room and several inside rooms. It's busy but always charming, humming with happy people.

We love the place in every season, one of the owners is always around taking care of whatever is needed. The food is really good and really different, basically French bistro with unusual Middle Eastern specialties. This is definitely a pleasure.

L'Orangerie: Price:

903 N. La Cienega Blvd., W. Hollywood, 310-652-9770
This is the "grandiose" LA place for truly special occasions the two of you wish to share in a splendid setting.

The main dining room could have been transported from a small, private castle in Europe. The courtyard and foyer are decked out with gorgeous flowers, equal in splendor to the wonderful classic French cuisine. The service is impeccable. Nobody speaks very loudly.

Melisse: Price: to .

1104 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, 310-395-0881
When you want to make each other feel special try Melisse , a newcomer to the LA scene though the "famous chef" is well known around town.

The main dining room with an elegant, oversized crystal chandelier has many very private banquette tables for cozy two-by-twos. The food is original, "French marries California" and very good. We loved the mille-feuille with Tuna Tartare.

Michael's: Price: to

1147 3rd St. Santa Monica, 310-451-0843
Whenever we go, I always want to go back. Michaels couldn't be more perfect for intimate two some evenings.

The beautiful garden with sculptures and waterworks is truly romantic and the cuisine is the best of California, so innovative and delicious, many places aspire to equal it but few can match it. Leave some room for desserts.

Saddle Peak Lodge:

419 Cold Canyon Rd, Calabasas, 818-222-3888
Tucked up high in a Malibu Canyon this wonderful three story lodge has the coziness of the wonderful cabin in the woods you've seen in many special love movies dripping with romance.

The main dining room has a huge fireplace, and that's where you want to be. We like it better in fall and winter for just what the burning logs do to us. The food is good, ample, and especially rich for meat and game lovers.

Valentino: Price: to

3115 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, 310-829-4313
Where can you find great Italian cooking, impeccable service, an almost unmatched wine list and all of it enjoyed in an atmosphere that's truly "away from it all." That's Valentino, rated by many as the best Italian in Southern California. Treat each other. Cheers!
