| Trained in all aspects of marketing and business strategy, Ms. Brandwynne, still in her twenties, turned around an unprofitable consumer company, Yardley of London, into an industry leader which was then sold to British American Tobacco, at the equivalent of a billion dollars today.
This project brought her great visibility and recognition. It also allowed her to form her own company, Brandwynne Associates, specializing in turning around unsuccessful brands and/or divisions of Fortune 500 companies, such as American Cyanamid, Bristol Myers Clairol, National Liberty Life Insurance, Revlon, Mitchum-Thayer, Seagram & Sons, Sterling Drug Corp. and Fisons Limited, London. To each of her assignments she brought a unique combination of sharp business analysis and great creativity to solve specific marketing, product, distribution and/or financial problems. In 1974, she sold her business and joined John Reed, then President and later Chairman of Citicorp, as marketing strategist for the Citicorp consumer division worldwide. Subsequently, Ms. Brandwynne was appointed by then Chairman Walter Wriston to develop the business strategy of Citicorp's ten-year plan. This required the positioning of Citicorp within the developing global economic environment. She described and constructed a model of the dynamics and functions of the information economy and interpreted the implications of this emerging economic system for particular industries and corporations. As early as l975, she and her staff predicted the development of "The Internet" and recognized its future importance. At that time, she described this emerging electronic network for the leadership of Citicorp and named it the "Global Conduit." Her insight and recommendations were incorporated in Citicorp's ten-year plan and resulted in significant investments by Citicorp in the new communication technologies and became a cornerstone of Citicorp's business strategy. During her tenure at Citicorp, Ms. Brandwynne managed an inside staff and outside team of scientists, industry specialists including academics from Harvard, MIT, Stanford, The Annenberg School of Communication and Columbia University. With their participation she structured and supervised a global study on the convergence of telecommunications and computers, and she continues to this date to study and interpret the ongoing structural changes, as well as the technological developments in communication and information distribution. In 1981, Ms. Brandwynne moved to Los Angeles to help reposition a small, single product soap company, Neutrogena, with sales then of only $24 million. She developed the strategy and then became a key contributor in the highly successful execution of the business objective. Neutrogena was eventually sold to Johnson & Johnson for close to $800 million. After leaving Neutrogena, she started two different business projects. Firstly, she developed the Very Private® company comprised of specialized healthcare products and a consumer column on healthcare issues, marketed under the same brand name. Today her column reaches over 6 million newspaper readers, as well as a large radio and TV audience. The column is also featured on more than 40 health, relationship and senior citizen websites. The Very Private® products are currently being sold directly, on the web, through medical professionals and in various drugstores. The development and growth of the Very Private Company is an ongoing and major occupation of Ms. Brandwynne. In the first quarter of 2000, Ms. Brandwynne was appointed as strategic consultant to Microvision, Inc., Bothwell, WA 98011, U.S.A. In the fall of 2000, she was also nominated a Director of Microvison, Inc. Ms. Brandwynne has served in multiple advisory roles in several administrations. She was an Advisor to The Council of Economic Advisors under its Chairman, Herbert Stein, during Presidents Nixon and Ford's administrations. She was a member of the United States Trade Representatives' Services Policy Advisory Committee under President Ford. She was a participant in the development of The North American Trade Agreement between Canada and The United States. She participated in a G.A.T.T. Meeting in Geneva as part of the United States negotiating team regarding trade in services. Ms. Brandwynne also chaired an Economic Summit at The White House in which President Reagan, Chairman Greenspan and Secretary Baker participated. At the request of President Carter, she took an active role in the development of a new competitive strategy for the United States along with the CEOs of fifty Fortune 500 companies, the Presidents of the top ten United States Universities, the leadership of key labor unions and members of the White House and Congress. Ms. Brandwynne also serves on the Boards of Directors of several non-for profit organizations including The Los Angeles Opera, The California Institute of the Arts, and the board of the "Amici degli Uffici" in Florence, Italy. She is a member of the Committee of 200 (top female entrepreneurs, a global organization similar to YPO), as well as a member of the Los Angeles Trusteeship (top females in their professions). Ms. Brandwynne has been a regular speaker at universities and international forums on the subjects of business strategy and market competitiveness. I am Jacqueline Brandwynne.
