"13 months and no period,
I'm worried for my girl friend!"

Dear Jacqui,
My girl frined hasn't gotten her period in over 13 monthsShe is only 18 years old. She doesn't suffer from anything else. In other words, she seems to have perfect health, other than getting really nervous when something bad is going on.

Could you help me? Or could you tell me if you've heard of other similar cases? Please help me or refer me to someone who can help me with my qestion's. Please I would really appreciate it...Thanks...Sincerely, Alex

Dear Alex,
You are wise to write. It if very important to get to the bottom of your girlfriend's gynecological problem as soon as possible.

The first step for you to take is to immediately get in touch with the gynecologist who has treated her and ask for a complete copy of her medical history, including his medical notes, diagnosis and results of the procedures he has done.

There is a reason he performed several gynecological procedures, and you have the right (under the law) to be informed completely and receive a copy of her medical history and his findings.

Once you have these documents in hand, I recommend that you get a second opinion from another gynecologist, maybe you can call the head of gynecology at your local hospital to make a recommendation. A new doctor can then review the medical records. Understanding her medical history will help in understanding her case and make a proper diagnosis possible.

If you wish us to help you find another medical source, please let us know your geographic location. I commend you for being so concerned about her and taking appropriate action.

Jacqui
