Dear Jacqui,
Can a woman get a yeast infection from receiving oral sex from her partner? If so what steps can be taken to avoid getting the infection? Rose.

Dear Rose,
We have never heard of a single case where a woman came down with a vaginal yeast infection after oral sex. The yeast fungus is always present in the vaginal environment, it is kept in check by certain bacteria.

When the vaginal environment and or pH is disturbed and unbalanced, the yeast fungus grows exponentially and that then causes a yeast infection. You can read a great deal about it on our site, www.veryprivate.com.; how to treat it, how to spot it, how to avoid it. If you are sure it is a yeast infection, there are several treatments available over the counter.

The top brands Gynelotromin or Monastat-7 re are dependable, however, each woman reacts differently to each treatment. Sometimes a treatment needs to be repeated to be l00% effective. Your pharmacist can discuss the different treatments with you.

But, if you are not sure that it is indeed a yeast infections, several vaginal infections have similar symptoms, then I would advise a medical check up. Also, be especially circumspect about personal hygiene, avoid scented bubble baths, avoid cleansing products with fragrance, chemical colors or any additives including plant additives or vitamins. And, no douching, ever. These are often the cause of vaginal disturbances leading to irritations or infections. When the vaginal pH is normal we never see yeast infections.

I suggest you use a pH balanced soap or body wash such as the Very Private Body Wash which is fragrance free and very mild. It actually helps protect you against vaginal irritations just by daily washing. I also recommend that you take a daily acidophilus capsule for at least one months to help reestablish the vaginal balance.
