"Is it safe to have oral sex with
my wife if she has a yeast infection?"

Dear Jacqui,
Firstly, let me complement you on your site, it is most helpful for my wife and myself. I think my wife has a yeast infection. Is it safe to have oral sex with her? Sometimes she has a white, chalky secretion from her vagina, can this occur during sex? Please help us, Billy

Dear Billy,
Thank you for your kind letter. No, it is NOT safe to have sex while your wife has a yeast infection. It is unlikely, though possible, that you can get infected and then pass it right back to her. It is also not a good idea to have oral sex with her. Remember, the yeast fungus is contagious and likes warm, moist places to grow.

There are several very effective treatments that she can buy over the counter. She should finish the treatment and then check that all the symptoms have disappear before you again engage in intimacy. You might also wish to read everything about yeast infections on my site, www.veryprivate.com.

Furthermore, I strongly suggest that she become more knowledgeable about avoiding yeast infections. Often they occur when women use products in the vaginal area that destroy the natural protective pH. She should avoid bubble baths, soaps or body washes containing fragrance, chemical colors (dyes), plant or vitamin additives.

They can easily affect the vaginal pH and throw it out of balance. When that occurs, bacteria or fungi, which are always present, have the perfect opportunity to "take over". I recommend that she use a pH balanced non-scented soap or body wash such as the Very Private pH balanced Body Wash, which you can find on our site, www.veryprivate.com under products. I hope your wife gets better soon.
