Painful Sex
"I'm having so much pain
during intercourse,
I've asked him to stop"

Dear Jacqui,
My boyfriend and I have been having sex for the past two years and just within the week I'm having pain during intercourse. It feels like a burning sensation inside my vagina. It's so painful that I ask him to stop. I don't know what's going on down there?
Monalisa

Dear Monalisa,
Since your symptoms have not occurred before, there is a good chance that you might have caught a vaginal infection, which only your doctor can properly diagnose when examining a vaginal sample under the microscope. This is quick and absolutely not a painful test, which will identify the cause of pain. While these vaginal infections -- either fungal or bacterial -- are quite common and not serious problems -- they can lead to complications if untreated. So a check up is the best way to avoid any health risks.

Meanwhile you should know a few rules about vaginal hygiene that will help keep you protected: Always void after intercourse and then use lots of lukewarm water for rinsing. Use a soap or body wash for vaginal cleansing containing NO fragrance, no chemical colors, plant additives or vitamins and/or other unnecessary additives.

These ingredients often destroy the healthy vaginal pH, which protects you against vaginal infections. Use a pH balanced, mild soap or body wash such as Very Private. Avoid all douches and vaginal sprays or deodorants. It is a good idea to drink a glass of cranberry juice daily, the unsweetened kind, to help keep your urinary tract clean. Hope your problem will be cleared up soon.
