"How do I forgive my partner?"

I read your December article about listening; it was excellent. How do I forgive my partner for the way he treated me in the past, when deep down it still hurts? Tammy

Dear Tammy,
No relationship is easy. No relationship is built without overcoming hurdles and being able to say "I'm sorry or I forgive you". These words should not be uttered without deep meaning. Remember, the strength of a relationship is tested by "over coming" difficult situations.

What you need to ask yourself is simply this: are both of you willing to help each other in building a stronger, more loving relationship? One partner alone cannot do it, no matter how hard he or she tries. You both need to be vested in the objective to really make each other happy. If that is the case, there are many ways to learn to love wiser and better. With kind wishes,

Jacqui
