"How long should I wait
after the onset of a
yeast infection to have sex?"

Dear Jacqui,
I am wondering how long I need to wait to have sex after the onset of a yeast infection. I've heard that it is possible to give it to my boyfriend and get it back after I have been treated. I want to make sure this doesn't happen.
Kathryn

Dear Kathryn,
I suggest you wait at least four days after you've finished with the anti-yeast treatment and observe if any of the symptoms reoccur. Yes, it is possible, though unlikely, to transmit the fungus. However, fungi like dark, tight, moist places and male organs are exposed to air often, so it is hard for the fungus to take hold.

I suggest you start using a pH balanced soap or body wash without fragrance, chemical colors or plant additives. It is these kinds of ingredients in most soaps and body washes that break down the pH balance in your vaginal area.

When the pH is out of the normal range, infections occur far more easily. We never see a yeast infection when the pH is normal. You might wish to try the pH balanced Very Private Body Wash which actually contains a special ingredient that will help protect you against vaginal irritations. You can find it on www.veryprivate.com under products.
