"I often get rashes and itching.""

Dear Jacqui:
I have dry, sensitive skin especially in my intimate area? I often get rashes and itching. How can I avoid it?
Mona

Dear Mona:
Many women develop rashes, itching or more serious skin irritations by using inappropriate cleansing products for their body or intimate area. It the skin feels taut, itchy or it becomes red after use of a particular product, it is giving you the message to stop using it. Everybody?s skin has a particular.

It is important to understand that the pH (the balance between alkaline and acidity) is part of protecting the health of your skin. Inside your vaginal area the pH is about 4.7. In the intimate area outside the vagina it is about 5.5. If you use products that are too alkaline such as many soaps are, or too acidic such as many scented bubble bath or body washes are, you risk destroying the normal, healthy pH.

To be on the safe side use a mild, pH balanced product, lots of lukewarm water and avoid douching and sitting in high detergent bubble bath. You might consider using a few drops of intimate moisture daily, the intimate area actually needs moisture replacement as much or more than your face, especially if you suffer from vaginal dryness.
