Dear Jacqui,
I've never had sex but I got a yeast infection before my period last month and I got one after my period went this month. What's going on with me? Is this normal to get a yeast infection two months in a row? Kerri
Dear Kerri,
Since you did not tell me that your infections were identified by a medical professional, I can not be sure that you really had a yeast infection in the first place.
Let us therefore assume that we are indeed dealing with a recurrent yeast infection, what medication did you take to cure them? Did the doctor make his diagnosis based on a microscopic evaluation?
It might come as a surprise, but not all yeast infection medications are effective for every type of yeast infection. So, the first possibility is that you never really got rid of the first infection.
Secondly, unless the cause of the infection was identified under the microscope, it is possible that you might have had a bacterial, not a yeast infection. In this case a yeast infection remedy would not be effective and the infection would come back.
As to your third question, can you get a yeast infection two months in a row? Yes, you can. Many women have recurrent yeast infections. I do suggest that you see a doctor if you have not already done so.
Also, please follow the following guidelines in the future to help avoid vaginal irritations:
- For your daily hygiene use a pH balanced soap or body wash containing NO fragrance, NO chemical colors (products that are blue, green, red and pink are not naturally colored that way), NO plant or flavor additives.
- Avoid sitting in scented bubble bath, do not douche or use vaginal sprays. These ingredients destroy the vaginal pH, which actually PROTECTS your vaginal health.
- Also use plenty of lukewarm water and cotton which you toss after washing. You may wish to try the Very Private pH balanced Body Wash which contains an ingredient to help protect you against vaginal irritation. It is also very mild and you can find it on www.veryprivate.com under products.
- For the next three months take an acidophilus capsule daily -- you can get it at any drugstore and drink plenty of liquids, at least four large glasses of water per day. I hope you get well very soon.
Jacqui
