"Is it normal to shave
the entire vaginal area?"

Dear Jacqui,
I was wondering if it is normal for women to shave their entire vaginal area and what percent of women actually do this...it is a touchy subject that will never come up in normal conversation so I was hoping you could help, thanks.
Wendy

Dear Wendy,
Yes, it is normal. However, there are no statistics available indicating how many women shave their vaginal area. My guess is that possibly 5 to 10% of women engage in some pelvic hair grooming.

If you decide to do it, be sure to be careful about hygiene. It's real easy to get small skin infections when shaving. Best for intimate care is to use a pH balanced soap or body wash containing NO fragrance, no plant additives or chemical colors, such as the Very Private pH balanced Body Wash which actually helps protect your intimate area against irritations. Also, when hair grows in, the skin tends to be "itchy".
