Dear Jacqui:
I was told that when having sex for the first time, it will bleed. Is this true? I didn't experience any sort of pain and it didn't bleed. Why is it so?, karen

Dear Karen:
All women have a very thin fold of tissue that partially or entirely occludes the external vaginal opening. It is called the hymen. When it is broken for the first time some bleeding may occur, often just a couple of drops.

However, in many women the hymen is broken before they ever experience penetration by a penis. It can happen through vigorous exercise such as participating in really active sports activities or through manual sex play.

In many cases the woman is not aware that her hymen was broken. Probably that is what happened to you. So there's no need to worry about it.
Jacqui
