"I've had a foul vaginal
odor for a long time
...what can I do about it?"

Dear Jacqui,
I've had a foul vaginal odor for a long time. I saw a doctor about this. He tested me for any possible infections that may be causing this, but the tests come out negative. I try to douche once a month with product that has a pretty smell like flowers. I'm also afraid about getting intimate anymore because of my odor. I don't want to mask the odor. I want to get rid of it! What can I do? Ashley

Dear Ashley,
Many doctors who test their patients for vaginal infections sometimes forget to check for bacterial Vaginosis, which can cause the kind of "foul odor" you describe. It just might be that this causes your problem. Many women have had the same issue until they were properly diagnosed.

Since you did not tell us when the smell occurs it is also possible that it may be due to a normal function that happens to some women after the male's ejaculation. The presence of semen in the vagina causes the releases of a particle group of amines, which indeed have a "fishy" odor, which can be quite noticeable.

This is a natural function and the odor can be removed quickly by washing with lukewarm water and a pH balanced soap or body wash such as Very Private pH balanced Body Wash which you can find on our website www.veryprivate.com. As a practical matter, please refrain from using cleansing soaps or washes in the vaginal area containing fragrance, plant additives, chemical colors or vitamins.

They often affect the natural healthy pH and then cause irritations or infections. Also avoid douching, vaginal sprays or sitting in scented bubble baths for the same reason.

Jacqui
