battle vaginal dryness?"

Dear Jacqui,
I'm a 36 year old woman and I'm battling vaginal dryness,,, never have before,,, but have lately,,, what can I do for it.
Lupe

Dear Lupe,
I suggest you read some of the articles on our website under vaginal health. They explain the causes of vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can be due to variances in hormone levels, but it also may be caused by stress and other factors.

It is a common problem that affects millions of women and can be relieved by using an intimate moisturizer/lubricant applied daily, after washing and ALWAYS before, sometimes, also, during intimacy. It is of the greatest importance that the product you use is FDA approved, fragrance free, hypo-allergenic. It should not contain any hormones or flavor additives, which can destroy your vaginal pH.

If it is not FDA approved it does not belong inside your body. Many over the counter lubricants were basically made for male self-gratification and should not be used for couples.

It is also important that you are careful with products you use in the vaginal area. Avoid douching, vaginal sprays or deodorants. Avoid sitting in scented bubble baths, which is very drying to the tissue. It is best to use a pH balanced soap or Body Wash which do not alter the vaginal flora. You will find The Very Private Intimate Moisture that's FDA approved and the Very Private pH balanced Body Wash on our website www.veryprivate.com under products.

Finally, be sure you drink enough liquids daily and apply a couple of drops of the intimate moisture every morning to keep this delicate tissue protected, just as you use your facial moisturizer every morning.

I also suggest that next time you visit your gynecologist it is a good idea to have your hormone levels checked. If you are on "the pill," it is also a possible cause of dryness. Can hormone treatments with estrogen help? They may but then there is an increased risk of breast cancer over time. So, a little added moisture seems the least disruptive change.
