Dear Jacqui:
"I've had a lot of chemotherapy and radiation after my cancer. My husband has been tremendously supportive through it all and very patient. We've had no sexual activities for the last three years which I know has been very difficult for him. I would like to resume intimacy but I'm so nervous because when we tried it was really, really painful."
Sandra
Dear Sandra:
We understand your situation well and can offer some practical assistance. With the help of medical professionals we have developed a simple, seven step program for couples who had to cope with similar experiences. Quite a number of them have reported back that the seven step program has helped them to recapture a normalized sexual life. Click here to read "Reentering Sexual Intimacy after Cancer."
Now, for some everyday practical advice; being that your vaginal tissue is dry and very tender, we suggest avoiding any products containing fragrance, chemical dyes, concentrated detergents (lots of bubbles) or unnecessary additives. When in doubt, lukewarm water or a pH balanced, hypoallergenic product is best. Be sure never to soak in bubble bath and absolutely no douching to avoid irritating your tissue even more.
Jacqui
